Weaver Castle is a volunteer grassroots organization located in the rural black belt of Selma, Alabama. Weaver
Castle organization is a 501(c)(3) organization committed to the preservation of historic Weaver Castle and combating
community deterioration. Additionally, Weaver Castle is committed to the education of the Civil War (Battle of Selma),
Civil Rights Movement ("Bloody Sunday" and the march from Selma to Montgomery), these are major events that happened in Selma.
Further, Weaver Castle is promoting the Advancement of Women with the art of Clara Weaver-Parrish and Rose Weaver.
We will be offering a historic bed and breakfast setting for travelers from all around the world with unrivaled
service, cleanliness, and attention to detail. Weaver Castle will host special events for patrons who have weddings, reunions,
receptions, birthday parties, including a host of other occasions and tours on the Selma Chamber of Commerce calendar of events.
Weaver Castle in order to facilitate the purpose of educating
individuals both locally and from around the world will host events, as well as a bed and breakfast where historic documents,
art, and artifacts can be examined including, certain walls which will be dedicated to specific time periods in which
Selma played a vital role in the Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement.
Information, education, and directions to other historic sights in
Selma will be available to patrons and guests. Weaver Castle will also seek to erect monuments and memorials
to both the time periods, and individuals who exemplify the defense of human and civil rights. Weaver Castle will educate
the community, patrons, and guests of the actions of individuals and the advances made during the time periods specifically,
the Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement time frames.
Examples of our educational focus include the march on March 21,
1965 from Selma to Montgomery, which was led by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and was one of the most significant
Civil Rights protests in American history. The march led to the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
On April 2, 1865, during the Civil War, the Battle of Selma took place. It was the last major
battle of the Civil War before the signing of terms in Appomattox.
Additionally, we will promote the
advancement of women with the art of Clara Weaver- Parrish, 1861-1925 (daughter of William Weaver) a well known Tiffany
artist and painter. She is in the Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame. Rose Weaver was an artisan of wood carving whose pieces
are represented in many southern homes.
Monies over and above operational cost and maintenance of Weaver Castle will
go to the Weaver Castle Hurricane/Tornado Damage and Historic Homes Fund. Weaver Castle will have charitable funds available
to homeowners in need, to make repairs to their homes.
